Ohio Board of Education Honors Mariemont with Momentum Award

The State Board of Education of Ohio recognized 70 districts and 226 schools across the state for receiving the Momentum Award for exceeding expectations in student growth for the 2017-18 school year. Among the recipients was the Mariemont City School District along with Mariemont Elementary School and Mariemont Junior High School.

In order to be recognized with the Momentum Award, the school and/or district must have received all A’s on the Value-Added measures on the state report card. It also must have at least two Value-Added subgroups of students, which include gifted, lowest 20 percent in achievement and students with disabilities. The Value-Added data measures the amount of growth a student achieves from the beginning of the school year to the end.

Only six percent of schools in Ohio and nine schools in Hamilton County were recognized with the Momentum Award. Mariemont Elementary is only one of 84 schools in the state to receive a Momentum Award at least three years, placing the school among the top three percent in the state for consistently demonstrating academic growth. Mariemont City Schools earned the award as a district for the third straight year, a feat that less than 5% of districts state-wide have achieved.
