Junior High Students Excel in Latin Contest

MJHS Latin Students

Mariemont Junior High School eighth grade students competed in the National Classical Etymology Exam (NCEE) with 21 earning either a bronze, silver or gold medal.

The NCEE is sponsored by the Junior Classical League and is designed to test a student’s ability to handle both Latin and Greek derivatives and their usage in the English language. This contest is based on English vocabulary words that are derived from Latin and Greek, when an emphasis on academic and SAT vocabulary words.

All eighth grade students won an award from the contest with the following earning medals:

This was the first of five contests for MJHS Latin I students throughout the course of the year. The remaining contests will relate to mythology, history and daily life, Latin vocabulary and overall Latin language  and Roman culture.
