Mariemont High School Latin Students Excel on National Exam
The week before the extended school building closure was announced, students at Mariemont High School took the rigorous 2020 American Classical League (ACL) National Latin Exam. A total of 45 MHS Latin students earned awards on their tests, ranging from Latin II to Latin V.
“In a year marked by change and unpredictability, our students overcame a number of obstacles to achieve some excellent results on the National Latin Exam” said MHS Latin teacher Kevin Ferry. “They received a total of 45 awards, including 8 gold medals and 12 silver medals. Our freshman class had more students score in the awards category than any freshman class before. Juniors Nick Elin and Jackson Hacias have received their third straight Summa Cum Laude finishes. Eight students earned a gold medal and Suma Cum Laude honors, including Harry Manzler, Daniel Cooper, Lillian Sharp and Tierney Rasmussen for Latin II, Zoe Copetas and Jackson Stahl for Latin III and Nick Elin and Jackson Hacias for Latin IV.
Earning silver medals and Maxima Cum Laude recognition were Liina Kroncke, Olivia McCann, Sam Hicks-Jirkans, Kyle Liu, Ashley Stahl, Thomas Willis, Jerry O’Hara, Michael Libby, Timothy Ackerman and Nora O’Donnell for Latin II and Emma Pfaffenberger and Anastasia Szymkowiak for Latin III.
