Mariemont High School junior Ella Brennaman accomplished a historic feat on Nov. 5, becoming the first MHS student to be named a DECA state officer at the annual Ohio DECA Fall Leadership Conference.

Ella competed with 20 students for five open state officer positions. The election process began in October with an initial screening in Columbus where she interviewed with DECA officers, advisors and leadership and took a state test. At the fall leadership conference, she gave a speech and answered impromptu questions in front of more than 1,000 attendees.

As an Ohio DECA executive officer, Ella is responsible for increasing overall DECA enrollment, planning and running the Ohio Career Development Conference in March and working with the other five executive officers to increase engagement among DECA members.

She is the first Mariemont High School student to ever hold a DECA state executive officer position and is the first student from DECA District 6 (Mariemont, Milford, Anderson, Sycamore, Indian Hill and Harrison) to hold the position since 2016.

DECA is an organization for students enrolled in marketing, business and finance education. It is designed to promote a total program of activities that develop leadership, teamwork skills and individual growth. DECA is the only international student organization operating in the schools to attract people to careers in marking, finance, hospitality, management and entrepreneurship.
