March 16 Update (2:45 p.m.)

Mariemont City Schools Families,

I want to provide you with the latest updates on the Coronavirus situation as it impacts the Mariemont City School District.

As is often the case in times like these, there have been rumors and inaccurate information circulating in our community about the Coronavirus and its impact on our school district, students and staff. I want to reiterate that we have established our Coronavirus Updates webpage on the district’s website and this will be the best place for you to get accurate and up to date information. We are committed to being as transparent as possible during these uncertain times and will be updating this page by the minute if necessary.

Currently, we are finalizing our plans for the launch of our Home Learning Program that will begin for all students on Monday, March 30. Parents can expect to receive more detailed information about this program in the coming days, but for now you can find a general list of what to expect from the program on the Coronavirus Updates webpage.

Last week we made the decision to cancel all athletics activities in the district through March 29 as we awaited guidance from the Ohio High School Athletics Association (OHSAA). In guidance released this weekend, the OHSAA has cancelled all athletics events in the state through at least April 5. This includes practices, scrimmages and games as a school, instruction by our coaching staff and the use of school facilities.  The OHSAA has also ruled that spring athletes are not permitted to participate with club or rec teams for tryouts, conditioning or practice.  Athletes also may not participate in “Coronavirus popup leagues.” The purpose of this ruling is for all teams to have a level playing field.

We are committed to doing the best we can to provide continuity of instruction and services to our students and families during this extended school closure. If you or anyone you know needs assistance with accessing internet, technology devices, mental health/counseling services and/or food during the extended closure, information and links are available on the Coronavirus Updates webpage.

Should you have any further questions about this situation you can email [email protected] or submit your question through the Coronavirus Updates webpage.

Again, thank you for your cooperation and support as we work through these challenging times. We will continue to update you with the latest information.

Sincerely,

Steven Estepp
Mariemont City Schools Superintendent
